Caloundra - an attractive, seaside town located on the Pumicestone Passage and Bulcock Beach - is embarking on a long-term master plan and significant streetscaping to build future opportunities for business and tourism.
The Caloundra central business district is focussed around an ‘authentic’ main street, which is just over one kilometre in length and a mix of retail and commercial activities supported by performance and cultural facilities.
The public realm of Caloundra central business district is being significantly upgraded to enhance the character of the main thoroughfare, improve safety and access and provide a new experience for visitors. The streetscape design includes a region-first ‘light feature’ and a reshaped roadway and footpath that removes upright kerbs and is more flexible and functional for events.
Sunshine Coast Council is also preparing a Caloundra Centre Master Plan to develop a long-term vision for the area. The master plan provides a roadmap for a revitalised ‘heart’ in Caloundra that strengthens opportunities for mixed-use development in and around Bulcock Street and nearby laneways, and provides for improved connections with Bulcock Beach. For areas surrounding the Caloundra central business district, the master plan will strengthen opportunities for business, health, education, sports and residential development. Sunshine Coast Council and the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce will also seek new investments in residential, hospitality, cultural, lifestyle and creative industries to realise this future vision for Caloundra.
